About us
Background and History
The Michigan Youth Workers Association is an organization comprised of adult volunteers from various backgrounds referred to as Youth Workers who come from various congregations of the Church of Christ throughout the state of Michigan. These Youth Workers are concerned men and women devoted to the spiritual, educational and social development of the young people from their respective congregations and communities. MYWA serves the needs of male and female youth, and seeks to instill positive Christian values and timeless principles for success in overcoming the many challenges facing our youth today.
MYWA has been working to benefit young people in the state of Michigan for over 50 years and has served thousands of young men and women in that time. The Association is an organization governed by a 12-person board of directors, elected biannually by the members of the organization.
In order to accomplish its goal of strengthening youth, MYWA sponsors meetings and workshops designed to motivate and equip adult youth workers to better serve their young people. Most importantly, MYWA sponsors events specifically for the youth, during which they are provided with teaching, workshops, discussions, and other activities designed for their spiritual, educational and social growth. Furthermore, the Association’s programs for youth consistently encourage the development and expression of young people’s diverse talents in creative and constructive ways.
MYWA annually sponsors a Youth Workers Retreat, a weekend of fellowship, workshops, and planning sessions for its adult members. The organization sponsors a Youth Retreat and a State Youth Conference. These two major annual events are designed to encourage, motivate and equip young people with the tools necessary for continued success when they return to their congregations and communities across the state.
